Amazon Handmade Popup @ NYC Rockefeller

It’s been a while since we posted anything! Last year, Delica participated in Amazon Handmade’s popup truck event at NYC Rockefeller Center! Our felted acorn ornaments were featured in their ornament truck!

Super excited to make these beautiful ornaments for the holidays.

Love for Monotone

Spring is around the corner, and I realized that I survived this winter only on monotone shades - gray, black, and white. With the muted yet bright colors of Delica's felted necklace, I did brighten up my monotone wardrobe.

But sometimes, I like to go stealth and wear monotone gray accessories as well - thus these set of creations below. A light gray felted pebble necklace, pebble brooch, and slate gray long beaded necklace. Time to go for texture and shapes rather than color, until the air gets warmer outside!

Coldness and woolness

It's getting quite cold and windy (I'm currently in Boston), and I guess the best part of being cold is that it's perfect for staying home and knitting! So here's my stash of yarn, some Peruvian wool some Icelandic wool (that I grabbed from my last trip to Reykjavik). I especially love the spring color tones, the yellows and greens. My plan is to use my vintage knitting machine and knit some long scarves (and of course felting them afterwards!)

What's your knitting project of the winter?

Making felted acorn garland 2

Making these multi-color garlands are fun - I get to use all my favorite merino wool shades. I get little joy when I see a whole bowl-full of small felted merino wool balls in all sorts of colors. Even though these balls look like they're all the same size, they're slightly different. And it's perfect, because the acorn caps are sized differently as well - so it take a bit of time to pick and match the right size felted balls to fit the caps on the hemp string.

Anyways, I got really into making these garlands, and ended up making six sets on the spot. The best part, is of course taking beautiful pictures (If this was an instagram, I'd hashtag #nofilter)

Making Felted Acorn Garland

With all those acorn caps I've been collecting, finally I made them into soft felted wool acorn garlands. It takes quite a number of steps, from drilling holes (I need to exercise my arm muscles - I had a sore arm after drilling few hundred caps), stringing them on hemp cord, and attaching the felted wool balls. I hope to keep some of them in my room, wrap them around a mini-pine tree I hope to have this winter, and add some festive atmosphere in the house!

My favorites are the white ones as shown above, but I've also been making the multi-color garlands and also custom single-shade ones as well (blues, greens, reds, you name them!)

It's the acorn picking season!

Have you heard of acorn picking? I get asked often, "Excuse me, do you eat* those?" when I'm picking acorn caps in the nearby park for the Delica's felted acorns as well as lavender filled acorns. I try to go early in the morning, after my daily run, and it's right during the time when everyone is going to work (I live super close to my day-job so I have the extra time in the morning), so I get those weird looks or questions.

But regardless, apologies for slow updates in both the shop and the blog, but as you can see, I have been working behind the scenes, making new projects (soon to come!), dreaming about new crafts, and also preparing for the holiday season!

* There is actually a Korean dish that uses ground acorn powder to make jello-type of dish, which I use to make it into a delicious salad - I'll share my recipe with you later!

Making a new project - lavender filled acorn sachet

I used to live in San Francisco before moving to Cambridge for graduate school, and while I was in SF, I found a quilting fabric store in the Sunset. I immediately fell in love with all of their fine prints, and started buying yards and yards of fabric, just so I could have it in my room.

I finally decided to make something out of it, and made these adorable lavender-filled sachets with acorn caps. It's quite fragrant, and I love having them in next to my bed. I went a little overboard and made three varieties; a garland sachet, an ornament (so you can hang it easily), and the regular single kind.

Hope you enjoy these too!

Inspiration : Pastel Tones from the MFA

Finally I made my overdue visit to the MFA in Boston. Although I've been living here in Cambridge for the past four years, this was my first time!

I fell in love with these beautiful crocheted vases by Ed Rossbach. Lovely pastel tones for the spring.

Making felted bowls

New "Dot" felted bowl line, preparing early for later this year! Lots of pastel tones, browns, earthy tones. Each bowl takes about 30 minutes to an hour to crochet, and few days to fully felt.

[DIY] That hole in your sweater - fix it!

Isn't it so sad when you find your favorite sweater got eaten by moths (or whoever it is!) from sitting in the closet for few seasons? I had this lovely indian pink sweater that my mom gave me, and I found few holes!

Given that I'm a fiber-lady, I decided to use complementary shade of wool fibers to needle felt on the hole. Just grab a 'fingerful' of loose wool fibers, bunch them up and start needle felting on the sweater. And voila! The sweater will now have some polkadots (that's the look), and is hole-free :)

Making a new project - mini felted macaron bowls

I recently came back from Paris with a box of  macarons from Laduree. Those small macarons in pastel tones were so beautiful that I wanted to make a felted bowl version to keep them in my Laduree box!

So the crocheting craze started, using up all my Icelandic wool yarn I brought back from my Iceland trip earlier this year.

The bowls are tiny, a good size to keep earrings and necklaces. Adorable!

[DIY] Upcycling old t-shirt

A fun side project upcycling old t-shirt. My favorite olive colored t-shirt was about to get thrown away, and I decided to cut into strips and crochet a bowl that I can use. With leftovers, I also made a woven cotton necklace! Try it too! (I'm going to make a cotton rug next time)

Knitting in Copenhagen

During spring break I visited my friend in Copenhagen on my way back from Reykjavik, Iceland. I had purchased a luggage full of Icelandic lopi wool, and couldn't resist crocheting a bowl while I was lounging by the window at my friend's house. And of course, I got to enjoy a Carlsberg on a rooftop.
